WPACT statement on COVID-19

Published Mon 16 Mar 2020

Dear WPACT members

As you would be aware, the situation and risks posed by COVID-19 are rapidly changing, which we are monitoring closely including the latest advice from the Department of Health. The health and safety of our members is our top priority.

In view of recent developments and the latest public advice from the Chief Medical Officer, the Water Polo ACT Board has decided unanimously to postpone the 2019-20 summer competition, WPACT elite program and representative training sessions. I can assure you that the Board did not come to this decision lightly. We consulted with clubs and other states and territories’ associations to consider the available options and potential risks for continuing with the season.

In this context, Water Polo Australia has also recently cancelled the Australian Water Polo League, National Championships and all senior national team tours. Australian Open championships and junior national team preparations have also been postponed until further notice. Water Polo NSW has postponed the NSW state championships. As such, ACT representative training will not proceed at this stage.

We will continue to monitor and review the situation with the intention to reschedule the remaining portion of the season and ensure members receive value for money. However, given the situation continues to evolve, we are unable to confirm future arrangements at this point.

We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time. Should you have any questions, we ask you to reach out to your Club Delegate to the Board in the first instance.
